A1Listening — audio transcript shown

In the test you hear this as audio

Show answer

Correct: خُبْزًا أَبْيَضَ وَحَلِيبًا

The customer asks for brown bread, the seller says it has run out ("نفد") and offers fresh white bread instead, so she ends up with white bread and milk. Q2 distractors (price / dislike / staleness) are never stated — the only reason is that it is sold out. The female B uses feminine agreement (تريدين / أعطني addressed to her), matching her female voice; A is male.

B1Listening — audio transcript shown

In the test you hear this as audio

A: مساء الخير.

Show answer

Correct: أَنْ يَسْتَرِدَّ نُقُودَهُ

The customer wants his money back, but a refund is only possible to a card and he paid in cash; he refuses an exchange, so the seller offers a store voucher ("قسيمة شراء"). The cash-refund, card-refund and size-exchange options are exactly what is ruled out. A (male) uses masculine agreement ("دفعت", "أريد"); B (female) uses feminine for her own action ("سأصدر") and correctly addresses the male customer with the masculine "تنفقها".

C1Listening — audio transcript shown

In the test you hear this as audio

Show answer

Correct: لِأَنَّهَا تَشُكُّ فِي أَنَّ الاسْتِعْمَالَ الثَّقَافِيَّ المَوْعُودَ سَيَتَحَقَّقُ فِعْلًا

سارة (female voice) is not against restoration per se; her worry is that the promised cultural use won't materialise (a mall behind a heritage façade). Her closing line "لن أصدق إلا يوم أرى الأبواب وقد فتحت فعلا" signals scepticism toward official promises, not indifference or outright rejection. "سارة" matches B's female voice (feminine agreement), "يوسف" matches A's male voice (masculine agreement).

Methodology

This Arabic listening test contains 15 items (3 at A1, 3 at A2, 3 at B1, 3 at B2, 3 at C1), ordered from A1 to C1 and drawn from the same item bank used inside the Lenguia study-plan product.

Scoring uses a pass-threshold model: each CEFR level is "passed" when you earn roughly two-thirds of its available points, and your result is the highest level you pass consecutively starting from A1. This rewards consistent competence rather than lucky guesses. Results range from A1 to C1 (the test does not grade C2).

The items are informed by the competency descriptors of the Council of Europe CEFR framework. This is a free self-assessment: results are a reliable orientation, not a certified proficiency measurement.

The competency descriptors follow the Council of Europe CEFR framework.

How to improve your arabic listening comprehension

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this Arabic listening test?

It uses the same item bank and pass-threshold scoring as the placement engine inside Lenguia's study-plan product, so the CEFR estimate is consistent and repeatable. Like any online self-assessment it is an orientation, not an official certificate.

Is it really free? Do I need an account?

Yes — the full test, the result and the shareable certificate are free, with no signup. If you create an account afterwards, your result can be used to build a personalized study plan.

What levels can I get?

A1, A2, B1, B2 or C1. A level counts as reached when you earn roughly two-thirds of its points and have passed every level below it. C2 is not graded.

Can I retake the test?

Yes, as often as you like. Questions within each level are shuffled, and your latest result replaces the previous one on this device.

Turn your result into a Arabic study plan

Lenguia builds a personalized daily plan from your placement result — stories, podcasts, grammar practice, writing and speaking exercises at exactly your level.
