About the CEFR Level Test

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the international standard for measuring language proficiency. This free test estimates your CEFR level by assessing both your grammar knowledge and your ability to understand texts of increasing complexity.

The test presents around 45 questions across six difficulty levels (A1 through C2). Questions mix grammar (fill-in-the-blank, sentence completion), reading comprehension (understanding short passages), and vocabulary (word knowledge and expressions). Your performance at each level determines your overall estimated CEFR level.

While no online quiz can replace a formal certification exam like DELE or SIELE, this self-assessment provides a reliable starting point for understanding where you stand and what to focus on next.

How the Test Works

The test presents 30 questions organized by CEFR level (5 per level, from A1 to C2). Each level contains a mix of grammar and reading comprehension questions designed to assess the competencies described by the CEFR framework.

Your estimated CEFR level is determined by finding the highest level where you answer the majority of questions correctly. The test uses an adaptive approach — if you consistently answer correctly at a level, you are considered to have mastered that level.

This is a self-assessment tool for fun and learning. Results are approximate and should not be taken as a certified proficiency measurement. For official CEFR certification, consider exams like DELE (Spanish) or their equivalents.
